A Marvellous SDA: 35 Coombe Ave, Hope Island
When Freedom Building Design was approached to create a beautiful specialist disability accommodation (SDA) in Hope Island, Queensland, they knew they needed only the best partners on board to deliver a top-quality project.

The Project
The elegant Hamptons-style SDA, located at 35 Coombe Avenue in Hope Island, on the Gold Coast, was designed by SDA building specialists Freedom Building Design and built by building companies PPS Commercial and No Limit Group.
The project is located 50 metres away from nearby canals, so it was requested that the building feature an elevated design to provide ample views of the waterways. However, such an elevated design on an SDA would mean that extra-long ramps would need to be incorporated to accommodate wheelchair access.
What Did Aluminium Balustrades Contribute?
With the raised patios and extended ramps, the developers needed to have expertly crafted balustrades and grab rails that not only ensured safety and accessibility for the disabled occupants but also complemented the Hamptons-style aesthetic.
Aluminium Balustrades played a pivotal role in bringing the developer’s vision to life by providing beautifully finished white balustrades and grab rails that adhered to strict accessibility standards.
We expertly designed and installed 160 m of ramp balustrades and 43 m of stair balustrades, both fully compliant with Australian Standard 1428, which sets out the design requirements for access and mobility, particularly for people with disabilities. Our efforts in this regard ensured that the building’s elevated design remained fully accessible to all residents, including those in wheelchairs.
To enhance the building’s aesthetics, we incorporated landing glass balustrades with racking glass, offering unobstructed views of the surrounding waterways while still maintaining safety.
Our perfectly installed, strong grab rails throughout the project provided essential support without compromising the elegant look. The result was a perfect balance of functionality and style, showcasing the craftsmanship and attention to detail that Aluminium Balustrades is renowned for.
