Louvring Up The Bond Institute of Health and Sport
In 2022, Bond University invested $45-million in a new building for the Bond Institute of Health and Sport (BIHS).
Designed by XL Architecture and built by construction company ADCO, this significant addition to the university’s facilities introduced approximately 11 500 m² of modern offices, educational spaces and parking.
The striking architecture embodies the university’s forward-looking and dynamic spirit, quickly becoming a campus landmark.
However, the building needed some finishing touches, which is where Aluminium Balustrades came in to provide sleek louvres that completed the overall look while also contributing to the building’s energy efficiency rating.

The Building
The new building is located at 18 Stadium Drive in Robina, Queensland, directly opposite the Cbus Super Stadium, home to the Gold Coast Titans rugby league team.
The new five-storey building is connected via a bridge interface to the existing High Performance Training Centre. It features a spacious central atrium, along with specialist education and training facilities designed to ensure the seamless facilitation of the courses offered by the BIHS.
Here, learners will engage in education and training in areas of expertise such as exercise and sports science, dietetics, occupational therapy, nutrition and physiotherapy, among others.

Our Contribution
For such a prestigious project, the developers wanted only the best. This is why Commercial Aluminium Balustrades was called upon to deliver and install window and ground-level louvres around the bottom half of the building.
The work we did simultaneously complemented the building’s sleek, modern design while providing an effective privacy screen and sunlight control with ample ventilation. This helps improve the building’s energy efficiency by reducing the overall cost of cooling in the building’s interior.
In addition to looking fantastic, the aluminium Krypton louvre system we installed is designed to withstand a variety of weather factors, such as high winds, rain and humidity.
Our louvre system is powder-coated after it has been cut to size, thereby ensuring that no corrosion can occur along the cut edges. In addition, the Krypton louvre system is fully welded, with no bolts or rivets used anywhere in the construction. This ensures not only a sleek and seamless finish but also prevents corrosion from occurring at the joints.
Because of our louvres’ sturdy construction and low maintenance requirements, the BIHS can be sure that they will not deteriorate over time.
