South Bank Station’s Platform 1
The upgrade of South Bank station’s platform 1 saw a much-needed improvement to not only the aesthetics of the platform but also ensured greatly improved accessibility for the many customers who frequent the station daily.
The platform upgrade, carried out for Queensland Rail from October 2021 and finished in November 2022, was also aimed at ensuring a better connection with the Southpoint precinct that is situated adjacent to the station.
Building company Hutchinson Builders was contracted to carry out the work on the platform. Hutchinson is a long-time collaborator with us here at Aluminium Balustrades, having worked with us on numerous projects in the past.
Hutchinson Builders was tasked with upgrading the station’s platform 1 to improve safety and access for customers using the station, as well as connecting the residential and retail precinct.
Who Was The Upgrade For?
A large aspect of the upgrades to platform 1 at Southbank Station was to provide safe access to the Queensland Rail network for patrons using mobility devices such as walkers and wheelchairs, as well as those who suffer from impaired vision and/or hearing.
In general, the renovations provide greater support for seniors and those with injuries whilst also accommodating for those travelling with luggage or parents with prams.
What Were Some Of The Upgrade Features?
The renovation and upgrade of Southbank station’s platform 1 featured a full-length raised platform first and foremost, along with necessary seating facilities and shelters. The shelters were designed to cover most of the platform and access ramp, thereby providing shade and protection against rain.
The security cameras were also upgraded, along with improved lighting at assisted boarding points. In addition, new wayfinding and platform signage was installed throughout to further contribute to the safety and well-being of customers.
How Was Aluminium Balustrades Involved?
Aluminium Balustrades partnered with Hutchinson Builders to provide balustrades for all the ramps and stairways connected to the platform, while Stainless Steel Handrails provided steel handrails to finish it all off.
The advanced fabrication technology and capability that we at Aluminium Balustrades have at our disposal made us the obvious choice to ensure a refined and sturdy finish to the project’s railings.
